OSHA 501

Course Description:

This course provides an update on OSHA General Industry Standards, Policies, and Regulations. Participation in this course will further develop effective adult learning principles and interactive training techniquesto identify, define, and explain construction industry hazards and acceptable corrective measures.

This course is designed for Outreach Program Trainers who have completed OSHA #501 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry and are authorized trainers in the OSHA Outreach Training Program. Upon course completion students will have the ability to demonstrate continued professional development in their field as they continue to teach the 10- and 30-hour General Industry Outreach Training Program classes.

Targeted Audience:

Individuals responsible for overseeing safety in industries such as: Construction, Manufacturing, Agriculture, Maritime and General Industry.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Explain significant changes in General Industry that have occurred within the previous four years
  2. Describe the requirements of the OSHA Outreach Training Program
  3. Describe changes in the OSHA Outreach Training Program
  4. Describe adult learning principles and techniques
  5. Demonstrate the ability to effectively deliver OSHA General Industry training as well as critique other trainers
  6. Identify required curriculum for the Outreach Training Program.

CEUs: 2.2
Prerequisites: OSHA #501 Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for General Industry. Authorized Outreach Training Program trainers are required to attend this course once every four (4) years to maintain their trainer status. Prior to registration, students must provide a copy of their current Outreach trainer card or an official transcript showing successful completion of the OSHA #501 Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for General Industry from their respective OSHA Training Institute Education Center, for verification of trainer status.

Recommended Materials: Pen, pencil, highlighter and writing pad.It is recommended that each student bring a laptop for use in preparing presentations.

  1. Submit copy of Outreach Trainer Card to osha@csudh.edu, indicate Update Course date and location you wish to attend.
  2. If approved, a permission number will be issued to you (allow 3 business days for processing).
