Public Sector Safety & Health Fundamentals Certificate Program - Construction

Certificate Program: Public Sector Safet & Health FundamentalsThe certificate program in Public Sector Safety & Health Fundamentals supports OSHA’s mission by training public sector employees in occupational safety and health to reduce incident rates for workers in state and local governments. Participants have the opportunity to earn certificates for Construction and General Industry training.

Participants may earn a safety training certificate for Construction after successfully completing a minimum of seven courses, comprised of a minimum of 68 contact hours of training.

Participants can choose from a variety of topics such as occupational safety and health standards for the construction or general industry, safety and health management, accident investigation, fall hazard awareness, and recordkeeping. Courses are available at OSHA Training Institute (OTI) Education Centers nationwide. Although this program was primarily designed for public sector employees, it is available for anyone interested in furthering their knowledge of occupational safety and health.

  • OSHA 510 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (OSX 910)
  • OSHA 7500 Introduction to Safety and Health Management (OSX 920i)
  • OSHA 7505 Introduction to Incident/Accident Investigation (OSX 971)

  • OSHA 521 OSHA Guide to Industrial Hygiene (26 contact hours)
  • OSHA 2255 Principles of Ergonomics (18 contact hours)
  • OSHA 2264 Permit-Required Confined Space Entry (20 contact hours)
  • OSHA 3015 Excavation, Trenching and Soil Mechanics (20 contact hours) (
  • OSHA 3095 Electrical Standards (26 contact hours)
  • OSHA 3115 Fall Protection (18 contact hours)
  • OSHA 7105 Evacuation and Emergency Preparedness(4 contact hours)
  • OSHA 7205 Health Hazard Awareness (6 contact hours)
  • OSHA 7400 Noise Hazards in the Construction Industry (5.5 contact hours)
  • OSHA 7845 Recordkeeping Rule Seminar (4 contact hours)

Elective courses must total 29 contact hours.
