Course Description

osha5109This course provides students with the ability to understand the relationship between OSHA and Cal/OSHA Standards, policies, and procedures. Students will identify hazards which occur in construction, and determine appropriate Cal/OSHA Standards (Title 8).

Course topics include Title 8 Construction Standards and compliance, training topics required in the 10 and 30-hour Outreach Training Programs, Injury and Illness Prevention Program, and Cal/OSHA training guidelines. Upon course completion Construction Outreach Trainers will be authorized to teach 10 and 30-hour Cal/OSHA Outreach Training Programs.

Who Should Attend

Individuals responsible for overseeing safety on construction projects such as: hospitals, highways, home building, cities, school districts, ports, refineries and many other projects.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Describe changes within Cal/OSHA construction industry program over the past four years with special emphasis on the past year
  2. Describe the effects of workplace injuries and illnesses
  3. Explain the mission and importance of Cal/OSHA
  4. Describe the organization, origin and codification of Cal/OSHA Standards Title 8
  5. Describe the process for Cal/OSHA inspections, citations, and penalties
  6. Explain the Cal/OSHA recordkeeping requirements for injuries and illnesses
  7. Identify recent changes to Cal/OSHA Outreach Training Program
  8. Identify and utilize Cal/OSHA resources.

Outreach Trainer looking to participate in the Cal/OSHA Endorsement program must have at least one year of verifiable safety and health experience with an organization governed by Cal/OSHA standards. Outreach Trainers will be required to sign a “Statement of Eligibility” form, prior to, or in their Cal/OSHA Partnership authorization course.

Recommended Materials: Pen, pencil, highlighter and writing pad. Outreach Trainers must bring Outreach Trainer Card to class to receive Cal/OSHA endorsement sticker.

Cal/OSHA Endorsement expires with the Outreach Trainer Card. When taking OSHA 502/503 to renew federal status, Cal/OSHA endorsement must be updated by taking OSHA 5029/5039.
